The "Reishi" mushroom was made known by that name by the media from the Japanese name for the Ganoderma Lucidum species first used in ancient Chinese medicine. After scientific research discovered it contained a number of potentially useful bio active compounds there was a brief period of reports in the news and news-zines explaining its potential uses in the treatment of Cancer. But it was the health food industry infomercials that really informed the public and made the name recognizable. They provided the information people needed to apply it to their personal health issues.
